5k Training Program

Click on the picture below to see my 12 week 5K training program.  This chart is a beginner program,

You will train 3 days a week, using at least 1 rest day between training days.  Feel free to insert other activities or workouts on those days.

Start each training session with a 5 minute warm-up, walking works well to loosen up the muscles and joints.  Make sure you are well hydrated.  Finish each session with a 5 minute cool-down, which should include some stretching.

What have I been up to…

I will briefly discuss what I have been doing these past couple of months (I don’t want to bore you).  Last Fall I took some time off from running ,and with 4 children it’s sometimes easy to work indoors and can be challenging to get good long runs in, and I really wanted to back off long endurance workouts.  Anyway, I focused  more on strength and worked a lot with Cathe Friedrich, especially her Low Impact Series (which was actually intense and very core focused). In the beginning of 2012 I knew I needed to step up the running again to get ready for The Broad Street  Run (Philly’s famous 10 mile flat and fast course).  It took weeks to get my running MoJo back….somehow I felt like I was going to disappoint at the race in May.  However, I ran pretty smart (negative splits) and came away with a new PR (at 40 years old, mind you) and 5th place in the Masters category.  I have a few 5Ks coming up, so I am hoping for the same kind of outcome…bring on the PRs!!!  This past weekend I also experienced my first mud run supporting MS.  I have to say, this was a total blast, I forsee many mud runs in the future for me.  Glad I was a part of the MuckRuckus Philly and supporting a great case.

I am still teaching classes at the YMCA.  I taught about 6 months of TRX classes, but I am taking a break from suspension trainers and focusing more on cross-training and boot camp style classes at the YMCA as well as the local park near my home.  I have added more fun toys as well….I still love to mix it up and add new ways to challenge my clients.  Some of my favorite toys are Training Ropes, sandbags, sandbells, and the Ultimate Body Press Dip Station.  Of couse I continue to bring out the kettlebells, dumbbells, and TRX.    Contact me if you want to join in on the fun or if you are looking for a trainer.  Check out the services tab.  That’s all for now…but plenty of stuff coming up in these summer months!!

Summer Recap

Summer is coming to an end, which makes me a little sad, but it’s actually allowing me to get back on here to post. It was a busy summer for me, lots of boot camps, some road trips, and even a filming of a DVD. Where to start? In June I decided to get things moving along with some outdoor Boot Camps. The goal was to allow convenience for local moms to get out of their houses and get moving. These were on Saturday mornings initially, but I was able to add sessions throughout the week. The sessions are an hour long and every session was different, but always involved cardio and weights in some sort of format. I like variety, but I also wanted to make sure everyone felt worked and satisfied. Some moms brought their children too if they needed to; which was nice for my children. My kids always seem to look forward to boot camp, and watch us work, while they play. Boot camps will continue through the Fall.

In July, my family and I went to Disney. In addition to the opportunity of finally bringing my kids to the happiest place on earth, I was able to participate in a Cathe Friedrich Road Trip. Never heard of Cathe Friedrich? Check out: http://www.cathe.com. She is my fitness guru, my inspiration, and now my friend!! It was a fun weekend of trying out her new workouts and making new friends who share my love of fitness (and Cathe). Cathe also had open auditions for her new Spinning DVD. To me, this was a once in a lifetime opportunity; I had to jump on this (and jumps we did). The audition was hard, but worth it, just the experience of trying out was an absolute joy.

At the end of July, I went on another Road Trip (I think I was a little spoiled this summer) to see Cathe again, but this time it was at her gym in Glassboro, which is only about an hour away from me. If I lived closer, I would have a membership. Her gym is beautiful and it is also where she films her DVDs. Anyway, it was another workout weekend funfest, ran into some of my Disney friends, and made even more friends.

So 2 days after leaving Glassboro, I find out that I was selected for Cathe’s CycleMax DVD and that we are filming in 5 days. So I had to repack my things and head back to Glassboro. We rehearsed all weekend and filmed on Sunday. This was the highlight of my summer. I never had so much fun in my entire life; I never heard that I would be on a workout Video with Cathe Friedrich. She is such a wonderful genuine person…the real deal. I don’t know how she has been able to manage it all, but she is a superwoman, with an amazing heart!!

Now that it is September, I am getting my kids ready for the first day of school. This year is a big deal for me, it’s the first year that all of my kids (all 4 of them) will be on the same schedule. We had a ton of fun this summer, but I think the best thing for children is consistency, and they are ready for school, even if they don’t think so.

I have so many things to look forward to…more Boot Camps, building up my home business, posting more on here, and the release of CycleMax (any day now). I am hoping I can add more to this site and really be a resource for those of you interested in changing your lives and working towards a fitter healthier you.

Also, if you are local and looking for a chance to get moving and really work, I will be starting up Fall Sessions this Wednesday Evening (6:30pm) and Saturday mornings at 8am.

I continue to personal train as well, contact me for a consultation and check out my site for additional services that I provide.
